Abroad Modern + Giving Joy
I met Giving Joy Founder Joy Kolin in July 2019 at Somerville's Bow Market, where we were both hosting Pop-Ups for our nascent businesses. We immediately recognized in one another similar passions for travel, mission-driven retail and products with compelling stories. Since our auspicious meeting, we've collaborated on several joint ventures and partnered in earnest in Fall 2020 -- despite of and frankly in direct response to the Covid Pandemic -- merging our businesses, skills and enthusiasms to form a stronger, even more impactful entity.
Together, we bolster our social good initiatives with a multiplied effect. Many social enterprises boast a circular theory of change -- selling goods made by artisans in need and redistributing a portion of the proceeds back in to their communities.
Our model is more expansive, fan-like. We support artisans and our Destination Partners to procure our goods, and then pay forward a portion of our revenues, in the form of Giving Joy Micro-Grants awarded to female entrepreneurs worldwide, allowing women to pursue their dreams and sustain their families and communities. In many instances, we further widen the fan by selling goods made by Grantees. Our soaps from The Gejja Women Foundation in Uganda are a perfect example of the dynamic networks we are building.
You are an indispensable partner in our cycle of giving and uplifting women around the globe. A portion of the proceeds from your purchases endow our grants and each time you shop at Abroad Modern, you earn an opportunity to vote for our next Grantee. Please share our efforts, emails and posts with your friends. The more people we reach, the more good we do. And there's nothing we need more these days than some serious "do-goodery."
Happy {Armchair} Travels!
